Enterprise software is often dull, uninteresting, and at its very worst, stressful to use. But it does not have to be this way. In this talk, Sam Ladner will discuss the unique aspects of building technology for workplaces. She will introduce the concept of “data exhaust” and how consumer products currently leverage it to produce great consumer experiences. Enterprise software designers can learn from this model, and Ladner will explain how.
Sam Ladner is a sociologist who studies the changing nature of work, technology, and organizations. Her past work has included studies on the productivity of engineers, lawyers, financial services workers, and various other workplace studies. She is the author of Practical Ethnography: A Guide to Doing Ethnography in The Private Sector , and has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington. She currently works as a senior UX researcher at Amazon, working on a V1 product. She received her PhD in sociology from York University and currently lives in Seattle with her husband.
